i-CAN Laptop Technology Initiative

On September 21, 2004, Kershaw County School Board unanimously approved a new Technology Initiative that will put laptop computers in the hands of every high school student in Kershaw County over a four year period.

The Kershaw County School District will be distributing laptop computers to all ninth grade students and all high school teachers this year.  This is a very innovative program and the only one of its kind in the state. Kershaw County’s project has been named i-CAN to indicate that this initiative will enable students to be able to say and believe “I Can” when they face the necessary tasks of the future – in higher education as well as in the workplace. The little “i” shows the connection of the project with the internet as all laptops will have wireless internet access at school sites.
